Where Leesburg Gathers for a Good Time

Grab a glass, take a seat, here’s how it went.

Two Old Hags Wine Shoppe opened on December 6, 2007, smack in the middle of downtown Leesburg. Why that date? Because it was Beatrix Isaac’s daughter’s birthday, and if you’re going to open a wine shop, you might as well do it for a reason that requires a toast. The shop was founded by Beatrix and Linda Kohlmeyer, two women who clearly thought Leesburg needed better wine and a little more mischief.

Back then, Beatrix and her husband Jose were also running a dance studio next door. Eventually the dance studio started taking over her life, and Beatrix decided she’d had enough of juggling both. Around that time, Joyce Huey started hanging around the shop. Officially, she had a full-time job somewhere else. Unofficially, she was always there—pouring, helping, chatting, and making sure nothing went terribly wrong. Before long, Beatrix sold Joyce her share, and just like that, Joyce was in the wine business.

After Linda passed away, Joyce became the sole owner of Two Old Hags. With Joyce at the helm, the shop turned into the town’s unofficial living room. If there was a fundraiser, Hags helped. If there was an art event, Hags poured wine. If someone needed tickets sold, a favor done, or a gathering spot—Hags handled it. People came for the wine and stayed because someone they knew walked in five minutes later.

At some point, everyone just started calling it “Hags.” Which felt right. Joyce Huey—also known as “ReJoyce,” was often joined by her best friend Joyce Hughes. Yes, two Joyces. No, it was never confusing after a glass or two. Together, they cooked up quirky events, ridiculous promotions, and marketing ideas that leaned hard into humor and community. They even took their antics to the big screen with the now-legendary Hag Report videos.

In September of 2021, Joyce Huey suffered a stroke, and the day-to-day running of the shop went to her son, Michael Huey. Michael stepped behind the bar and into big shoes—keeping the spirit of the place intact while pushing it forward. If you’ve been to Hags in recent years, odds are you’ve been enjoying the results of Michael’s hard work and dedication to keeping the institution running.

In 2026, Michael and Joyce sold Two Old Hags to Ryan McCabe and Layna Sasser—two locals with long histories in the local community. Both were born just down the street at LRMC. Ryan’s family once ran The Chopping Block, a downtown Leesburg staple back in the ’80s and ’90s. Layna’s grandfather served as Mayor of Lady Lake for years. After a big shift in their working lives (they got fired), Ryan and Layna decided to start focusing on the downtown Leesburg community, starting with the hometown shop they knew well.
